Translation: “This is my blog” (in an authoritative way)

My blog is now open!You’re looking at the first of many posts to come on my new blog. After many re-designs, re-organization, and re-thinking of how to put this together, I finally decided to just do it and get it over with. Design-wise, let me know what you like and what you don’t like.

Me and Blogging

This isn’t my first blogging attempt, I started one for my wedding planning 2 or 3 years ago (now defunct), which was a ton of fun.

It’s too bad I didn’t know about WordPress then — ended up doing it in Nucleus, which at the time, was pretty convoluted. Turns it couldn’t handle the web server upgrade to PHP5. Anyway, I digress. The thought of blogging again is kinda scary — What if my content sucks? What if I don’t have the time to post? What if I get myself in trouble somehow?

Personally, those are crappy excuses — I plan on tackling the issues as they come up, kinda like my plan for blog topics – discussing ideas/events as they happen.

What are your tips for this startup “blogger”? Where do you get ideas for posts and how much do you mix things up?

P.S.: Let me know if I’ve left out any useful blog features/functionality or if there’s something you’d like me to add.

    @Cryssi: I'd like to try Photo Blogging eventually, soon as I get a new phone.
  • Flickr blogging is by far the best thing ever.
    It's all I do really. Take pictures on my iPhone, e-mail to Flickr and voila they appear on my blog.

    Of course then you'd need something to take pictures of.
    But I'm all about the mobile blogging.
    If I could blog by sms that would be amazing.

    Great design! I really like it! Very user friendly too. I think when it comes to blogging, one of the important things is -- don't force it. Figure out what you like talking about most and be genuine about whatever you say.

    Sometimes I feel like I should blog if I hadn't been blogging for a while but then realize I should just simply go read the news or something and find out what I really want to talk about. Then flesh out the idea in your mind or on paper before writing it in WP.

    If you really don't feel like publishing your post yet, just save it and come back to it later when you feel more inspired :)

  • Hey Shey, Blog looks good! I particularly like the background and the pictures at the top. I think the Recent Activity section at the bottom could be tweaked a little bit, is my only suggestion.

  • Hey Shey, Sites looking sweet. Great Job! Don't worry about those concerns. Just keep posting and writing. I try to blog stuff I am thinking about or dealing with personally in my journey through life. Sometimes I'll post videos, just write thoughts or share what I am doing via mobile blogging. My suggestion is follow peoples blogs and see how they write. For example: Ragamuffinsoul.com is a great place to start. Gonna bookmark your site :)
